List of lost pet websites for Philadelphia pet owners

I constantly see posts about someone losing their cat or dog, and each time neighbors mention a site or group where the owner should share their post.

So I decided to get as many links as I could and put them in one location. Please let me know if you know of a website, forum, or group whose focus is lost pets and I will update this article. Also, don’t forget to contact all the shelters and rescues in the city if your pet has gone missing.

Read my Where to Adopt a Cat or Dog article for the list of shelters in Philadelphia or my Pet Services Rates Philadelphia for a list f all pet services in the city.

Websites that focus on reuniting lost and found pets with their owners.

The 6 websites below help you to find your lost pet. Three are national-level sites and 3 are Philly based. Here are 3 general lost and found pet websites and I’m sure there are many more.

I don’t consider these sites as the best way to get your pet back. However, the last two Philly websites off a list of things you should do if you lost your pet so check out that information.

I have written articles on all my other beloved pets that have passed away, so I did not want to exclude him. He was my second pet but the first one that died. He was a very funny cat!

His name was Squeaks

I adopted him as “Xander” at 4 months old on 1-20-08 and he died 10-5-10. I had less than two years with him. It’s wrong that he died so young and I feel cheated that I didn’t get more time with him.

He didn’t like my dog, sometimes attacked my cat Charlie (who would beat his ass), but he was a sweetheart.

My pet cat Squeaks and his idiosyncracies

He was small with a small head. As a matter of fact, he only weighed 9.1 lbs in July 2010 when he was almost 2 years old. Here is a litany of his behaviors and characteristics.

From general to specific stuff

He squeaked like a mouse, reared like a horse when I petted him on the back, and like a dog would drag a turtle-stick-string toy to the room I was in and play with it in front of me

Two or more times he broke through the screen window in the backroom and went out onto the roof of the 1st floor apt and then on the roof of the garage. He would be stuck there until I went out to get him.

When he pooped he would stand on his hind legs and his front legs would be on the lip of the litter box (whatever helps you go, buddy).

He would lick water from the bathtub drain.

Quite often he would swipe at my dog or attack my cat Charlie after cleaning her (Why so aggressive, dude?)

My futon was his favorite sleeping spot, either underneath it, lying on it, or he would climb into my sleeping bag that I left on the futon.

He chewed thru my cell phone charger cord once which cost me over $40 to replace.

When I first got him I had to pry his eyes open because they were sealed shut because of some eye disease or something (eye goo).

How squeaks entertained himself

He would climb everything and go in the cupboards under the kitchen counter-top

He would climb on my keyboard and walk all over the keys (thanks!)

I mentioned this above, but he would carry the stick-string-turtle toy in his mouth like a dog.

If there was anything “open”, then he would go inside to investigate: closets, bags, shelves, cabinets, etc.

Chasing flies was one of his exercise routines.

Of course, he went crazy for catnip.

He looooved my laser pointer. He also loved any string toy and the mouse and bell-ball toys.

He would play with anything he found – pens, rubber bands, pieces of paper, …

It’s out of focus but I only have a few shots. Don’t forget to photograph your pets!

How my pet cat interacted with me

He was really funny and quite a character, though he did have a tendency to piss me off – I loved him. He would anger me after 10 “bad” things and then do 1 awesome thing and I totally forgave him. He followed me like a shadow. He apparently loved me and I hope he knew I loved him as well

He would reach his paw out from under the table by the door and try and swipe me – he loved hanging out under that table.

He would reach his paw under the front door when I would leave (hilarious).

I would pet him as he walked past me and he would rear up like a horse when I pet his back while he continued walking.

He would snuggle by my arm on the couch and would sometime put his snout in my armpit and lick my pit. That was gross but it did tickle.

He would “knead” my shirt or shorts before lying on my lap.

My favorite was when he would crawl up my chest and “kiss” me. What he would do is rub his mouth and snout all over my lips. I would give his Eskimo kisses in return.

When I tried to put on my boots, he would go after my shoelaces.

I would sometimes put a collar on him which he would chew and claw to get it off.

He would partly run into the room in a funny way when I called his name – he always came when called.

When I went to sleep, he would climb under the blankets, push Charlie out of the way to get closer to me, stay for 5 minutes then leave. Charlie would never move back closer to me after that. I wasn’t happy about that result.

I would walk into a room to find him with a look of “caught in the act” and then he would take off into another room and hide like he knew he was guilty. What was he doing?

I often put him on top of the fridge to investigate or just look around.

He would always bite the zipper of my pull-over jackets

He also responded to “hey little buddy” or just “little buddy”. I named my dog Buddy because he did the same thing.

He would chase or, more often, get chased by Charlie.

He always responded to his name – “Squeeks”.

He would “squeak” when I picked him up.

He would “rough-up” my shorts or shirt or whatever I was wearing before he settled in on my lap.

I never got the chance to take him camping to Assateague Island as I did with Charlie. He would have loved that place.

Sleeping on my futon…

Final Thoughts

Squeaks was a cat whose life was too short and I wish I could have saved him. But then I wish all my pets were with me. I’m sure you feel the same if you have lost a pet in the past. I’m grateful that I have had them in my life, and my pet cat Squeaks is no exception.

Although you won’t often have to care for a rabbit, you should still know the basics of rabbit pet sitting. If you know how to care for a pet cat then you will also be able to care for a bunny. In this article, I provide a basic list of the requirements I have for my rabbit pet sitting clients.

The post Rabbit Pet Sitting (Guide & Tips) appeared first on Fairmount Pet Service.

Rabbit owners love their bunnies just like dog and cat owners love their pets. You want to know what to do in case you ever are asked for rabbit pet sitting services. It is not difficult to care for a rabbit, but it will help to get a new pet-sitting client if you are knowledgeable about rabbit care.

Take care of those bunny rabbits!

The only pet sitting that is easier than taking care of rabbits is freshwater fish. If you know how to care for a cat, then you know 90% of what is needed for rabbits.

Here is a basic list of the care that I have provided my rabbit clients:

Freshwater

Dry pellet food

Fresh green vegetables

Changing hay (litter)

And maybe let them out to exercise and play

Every rabbit I have watched were kept in some kind of pen or crate. That is where you put the water and food bowls and where the litter box is. Most of my clients had me one visit per day, but one of my clients had me come in the morning and again at night.

As for the litter\hay, I usually only had to add more hay. If the pet visit was for 5 days or more, than you may have to dispose of all the litter and replace it with fresh hay.

That is the basic run down for cat pet sitting: water, dry and\or wet food, and litter cleaning. The only difference in caring for a rabbit is the type of litter and fresh veggies as opposed to wet cat food.

Special notes when pet sitting rabbits

Here are some things to consider when pet sitting rabbits:

They are prey animals and are easy to frighten so be quiet

Try not to smell like other pets like dogs and cats

You more than likely will not be asked to pick up the rabbit or play with them. Make sure to adhere to that. The only contact I had with the rabbits was to use my finger to gently pet their head.

Final Thoughts

If you know anyone who owns a rabbit then pay them a visit and see if they can give you some time with their bunny. It’s an easy pet sitting gig but any experience you can get will go a long way to landing new clients.

There is no shortage of funny dog stories but I personally never get bored hearing about our goofy best friends. Over the past decade, I have cared for over 150 dogs from the various pet services I provide. I’ve experienced many funny moments involving those dogs and my own dog. Here is my top 6 funny dog stories.

The elements of funny dog stories…

So what makes a story about your dog a funny story versus just another story about your beloved pet? Non-pet lovers will most likely not find any story funny, but rather add to their justification that they do not like animals.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I guess great stories are in the ear of the listener. Whether your dog stories are about pooping on your bed pillow, drinking from the toilet or sleeping in uncomfortable positions, the following stories should make you crack a smile or two.

Funny stories involving my dog

My dog Buddy did some things that were hilarious plus some of my clients had goofy dogs. Here are my funny dog stories involving my dog Buddy.

1. My dog sleeping on top of his crate

I came home once and found my dog sleeping on top of his crate. He must have used the arm of the couch to make his way onto the crate. I had blankets and a bed pillow on top for my cats, but not for my dog. I never expected him to sleep up there. The crate is now caved in on top and the door doesn’t close easily anymore. Thanks, Buddy!.

2. Eating cat vomit

Another time I came home and couldn’t find my dog. My place isn’t that big so I started freaking out and calling his name. I heard him crawling out from under my low-lying bed frame. My cat little Rascal had been sick and was throwing up a lot. Buddy went under the bed to eat my cat’s vomit. Totally gross. it took a lot of effort for him to crawl under and crawl back out again.

Funny dog stories of dogs I walk and board

Here are some funny stories involving some of the more “interesting” dogs I have watched. If I wanted to I could add a dozen or more stories, but these are my favorites.

3. Endless humping (get your dog fixed!)

Bruno was a dog I boarded who wasn’t fixed and would constantly hump my dog. After Bruno went home my dog would hump the air until he forgot about the experience a week or so later. Buddy wasn’t the smartest dog, he just wanted to fit in.

4. Male and female reverse behavior

Miso & Worf were male and female pugs that I walked for about a year. I walked the older female Miso for a few months when the owner bought the puppy pug Worf. The male dog Worf always squatted to pee like a female dog, and the female dog Miso lifted her leg to pee like a male dog. Not sure why that happened but that was some kind of role reversal.

6. Big dog – small couch

Ben, a giant Boxer who I walked and boarded, was a super friendly dog. My dog and him got along great. Ben would jump on the couch with me and my dog even though there was not a lot of room left. And f course my dog had to sit near me so a struggle ensued on which one got to sit next to me. After a few minutes, I would have to kick them both off the couch.

Then at night, the same thing would happen when I went to sleep. First one dog then another jumped into bed with me. I didn’t get the best night sleep when I boarded Ben but I absolutely enjoyed having him.

6. “OMG, that dog ate a man’s sandwich — right out of his hand!”

I saved the best for last.

I walked a giant Schnauzer named Duke. One day I walked him to an area where a lot of people walk, bike, or just sit and enjoy the weather. There was a guy eating a sandwich while sitting on a bench. Duke in a flash grabbed the entire sandwich out of his hand and ate it whole.

Mortified doesn’t properly express how I felt. There’s more to the story but I’ll leave that to y our imagination.

Final Thoughts

That’s about it, though I could share Chef’s 8-foot jump off my steps, or Super eating “gross things” off the sidewalk, and many more stories but I’ll end this article with the sandwich thief.

If you have any funny dog stories, then please share in a comment below or email me the story. I would love to add your dog’s goofy behavior to this article. Hope to hear from you!
